The Kyd has released yet another single, "Purple Monaco." Lately, we have seen many great releases coming from The Kyd that go on to be decently successful. For example, his song “Back To The Essence” in collaboration with music producer and DJ A Major, now has over 20,000 streams and counting. Experts believe that The Kyd is displaying a promising upward growth trend and could be one of the next rap artists to become relevant in the rap scene.

For those who are unfamiliar with The Kyd, The KYD is a rapper from Chatham, Ontario, Canada and currently based in London, Ontario. He started getting into rapping initially in high school after a friend recommended they try freestyling one rainy day when they couldn’t go out skating. Writing and recording raps then turned into a regular thing to do for fun on weekends with a group of friends. Upon hearing albums like Nas’s Illmatic and others from the Golden Era of the ‘80s and ‘90s, this eventually would blossom into an obsession with the culture that has led to where The KYD is now.

Inspired by artists like Nas, AZ, Eminem, Kool G Rap, Big Pun, and Black Thought, The KYD’s music gravitates more to the styles of older hip-hop that focus more on the MC’s craft than much of mainstream music does at the moment. With that said, he strives to carry on the tradition of the Golden Era while presenting it in ways that can resonate with both hip-hop heads and the younger generation.

In 2022, The KYD has dropped a lot of music and has no plans to stop anytime soon. His joint album with fellow Canadian rapper Pats, “PK ALL DAY,’ dropped April 13th. Most recently, he’s dropped the single "Purple Monaco," the second of three he is dropping with his brother and regular collaborator Misfit James over the next month. The KYD has completed work on his follow-up to PK ALL DAY, which will be his first full-length solo project. More details regarding its release are coming soon.
